Construction and renovation projects are exciting — but they leave behind a mess that standard cleaning cannot handle. Fine construction dust infiltrates carpet fibers, grout haze dulls newly installed tile, mortar and thinset leave residue, and chemical off-gassing from new materials lingers in the air and on surfaces.
The Post-Construction Cleaning Challenge
Post-construction floor cleaning is fundamentally different from regular maintenance cleaning. Construction debris requires specialized equipment, specific chemical treatments, and a multi-step process:
- Drywall dust is incredibly fine (smaller than 10 microns) and settles deep into carpet fibers and grout lines. Standard vacuums cannot capture it effectively — a commercial HEPA vacuum is required.
- Grout haze is a thin film of cementitious grout residue that bonds to tile surfaces. It requires specialized haze removers and high-pressure extraction.
- Mortar and thinset splatters on tile require careful mechanical removal followed by chemical treatment.
- Paint, caulk, and adhesive splatters require specific solvents based on the material — using the wrong solvent can damage flooring.
- Construction chemicals — sealers, adhesives, and finish products — leave residue and odors that should be professionally removed before occupancy.
Flooring Types We Clean After Construction
- New carpet — Remove construction dust, drywall particles, and chemical off-gassing. A post-installation deep clean gives new homeowners a truly fresh start.
- Newly installed tile — Remove grout haze, mortar splatter, and thinset residue. Sealing available after cleaning.
- New LVP — Remove factory residue, installation adhesive, and construction dust.
- New hardwood — Remove construction dust from grain and seams using finish-safe, low-moisture methods. See our hardwood floor cleaning service.
- Natural stone — Remove construction residue and seal new marble, travertine, and terrazzo installations.
Our Post-Construction Cleaning Process
- Pre-inspection: Walkthrough to identify flooring types, construction residue, and problem areas
- Commercial HEPA vacuum: Remove dry construction dust before any wet cleaning — critical for carpets
- Targeted treatment: Apply specific solutions for grout haze, paint, adhesive, and mortar based on material type
- Deep extraction: Truck-mounted hot water extraction flushes out dissolved residue and fine particles
- Post-inspection: Final walkthrough to ensure all construction residue is removed
- Optional sealing: Apply grout sealer or stone sealer to protect new installations
