The Monthly Cleaning Guide

Monthly cleaning tasks bridge the gap between your weekly maintenance routine and your seasonal deep cleaning. These are the tasks that don't need weekly attention but shouldn't wait for a quarterly deep clean either. This guide covers everything you should tackle monthly, plus a zone-based schedule to keep it manageable.

The Monthly Cleaning Task List

Bedroom & Bedding

• Wash all bedding in hot water (at least 130°F to kill dust mites)
• Wash pillows or run through the dryer on hot to kill dust mites
• Launder mattress pads and duvet covers
• Rotate the mattress
• Vacuum under the bed
• Clean behind nightstands and dressers

Kitchen

• Clean inside the microwave (steam with water and lemon)
• Wipe down the inside of the refrigerator
• Check and discard expired food
• Clean the range hood and filter
• Descale the coffee maker (run white vinegar through, then 2 water cycles)
• Wipe down cabinet exteriors and handles
• Clean small appliances (toaster crumb tray, blender base)
• Sanitize the sink drain (baking soda + vinegar)

• Clean garbage disposal — Grind ice cubes and lemon peels to freshen and sharpen blades.
• Check for leaks — Inspect under sinks, around toilets, and near appliances for water stains or mold.
• Clean dishwasher filter — Remove and rinse the filter at the bottom of the dishwasher.
• Test smoke detectors — Press the test button and replace batteries if needed.
• Check fire extinguisher — Ensure it's charged and accessible.
• Inspect grout and caulk — Look for cracks or gaps in bathroom and kitchen areas where water can penetrate.

• January-March (Dry Season): Focus on dusting and air quality. Pollen counts begin rising in February. Deep clean AC vents.
